Project #2 Assignment

Econ Project 2: There’s No Business like Your Own Business!

For this project, we are asking you to design a business with a group of your peers.  You may work in groups of 2-3 with people from your same class period. For this first portion, you will create a business that sells a unique, new product.

Step One: Design your Business
·        Write a business proposal.  Include the parts below, at minimum.
o   What will you make?  Decide what your main product/product line/service will be.  Describe what you will sell and who your potential customer is.  Include a drawn/designed mock-up of what your product will look like, or description of how you will train your employees
o   Figure out what type of business you will have.  Explain in at least a good paragraph why the type you chose is the most desirable.
o   Where will your capital come from?  How will you raise the money?
o   Where will you be located?  Choose a place in Cobb County where you feel you will be most successful.  Why is that building/location a good fit for you?  If you wanted to expand, how would you do it – add on to the building, take over next door, or start a 2nd location?  Why?
·        Write a letter asking for money to start your business.  Describe your company and your business plan.  Why are YOU worthy of their money?  What will they get out of it?  Why is your company a good, safe investment?
·        FORMS!  You need to be official!  Go to the Cobb County Government Website, and complete the forms listed below.  You should print them out and neatly write on them in blue pen.
o   Affidavit Verifying Status
o   Occupational Tax form(s) that fits with your type of company – see me if you need help deciding which
o   Sign Application (complete form and requirements #1-5)

Step Two: Advertise your Product!
·        Create 4 Advertisements for your business/product line.
o   Design a billboard.
o   Create 2 print advertisements that could go into a magazine or newspaper.
o   Record a 30-second radio or TV commercial (your choice which, include a script either way)
·        For each of the 4 advertisements, describe your target audience, where the advertisement will be shown/heard/printed, when it will run, etc.

Step Three: Present your work in Class
·        Prepare and present an oral presentation of your business to the class, including viewing the commercial and seeing at least one of the print advertisements. Treat us like potential investors: Why are you the next great American company?  Why should we want to invest with you at the beginning?
·        All group members must participate.
·        The presentation should last 8-10 minutes.

Step Four: Turning Everything In
·        All parts of your project should be typed, single-spaced and bound together in a notebook or folder.
·        All parts should be completed fully, with good, detailed answers.
·        Written parts of the project are due March 7th at the start of class.
·        Presentations will happen March 7th and 8th in class – we will sign up for times on Feb. 21 in class.
